As a nutritionist and naturopath, I strongly believe that weight loss starts with a healthy, well-rounded Alkaline Diet in combination with exercise. But there are also superfoods that can give you an added boost and help burn fat fast!

Listed below are several fat-burning foods that will help boost your metabolism. If you add these superfoods to your diet and combine them with exercise, you’re sure to see dramatic results!

    Superfood #1: Resveratrol

Resveratrol has been in the news as being beneficial for heart health and anti-aging, but it is only beginning to make headlines for its weight loss benefits A recent study at Purdue University showed that this unique compound can help block fat cell formation.

Resveratrol is found in the skin of grapes, which is why most of us associate it with wine. But Resveratrol also occurs naturally in pomegranates and Japanese Knotweed, too.

While red wine does contain Resveratrol, I recommend you choose a resveratrol supplement. In addition to supporting healthy weight loss and anti-aging, taking Resveratrol supplements means you don’t have to deal with the alcohol after-effects that may come with red wine.

    Superfood #2: Green Coffee Bean

A recent clinical study that was published in the Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity Journal followed a group of 16 adults who supplemented their diets with Green Coffee Extract for a period of 12 weeks.

During the 12 weeks of the study, the subjects lost an average of 17 pounds each. This amounts to ten percent of their total body weight and sixteen percent of their total body fat! Green Coffee Bean could help with the obesity epidemic that is plaguing our country.

Green Coffee Bean works because it’s because it contains a key natural active compound called Chlorogenic Acid, which works to help stop absorption of fat in the body while boosting metabolism at the same time. For best results, I recommend taking an 800mg serving of Green Coffee Bean with a large glass of water at least 30 minutes before meals.

Superfood #3: Dark Leafy Green Vegetables

No healthy diet is complete without the leafy greens. The reason why is that green vegetables are the foundation of our diet, they balance out the acidity and enable our bodies to work at their optimum level, including our metabolism.

If you want to know more about why Dark Leafy Greens are vital to health, I suggest you read my article on the Alkaline Diet, which further explains the importance of alkaline/acid balance in the body.

It can be difficult in the world of convenience and fast food to get the recommended 3 to 5 servings of leafy greens a day, so I recommend taking GenEssentials Greens, which you can find at Whole Foods or in your local health foods store. GenEssentials Greens contains over 70 green ingredients that you can add in a single scoop to a glass of juice each morning.

    Superfood #4: Raspberry Ketone

Ketones are an all-natural phenolic compound, or enzyme, that helps prevent weight gain by stimulating the body’s digestive process in a natural way to break down the food we eat. In addition controlling weight gain, Ketones are also believed to help the body detoxify and cleanse itself.

Moreover, the Ketone is what gives red raspberry its aroma and sweet smell and it’s believed that this characteristic also gives the Ketones the ability to suppress appetite.

Raspberry Ketone is an excellent addition to any fat-burning regimen, especially when combined with exercise. Pure Health’s pure Red Raspberry Ketone supplement is the purest ketone that I have found for sale.

    Superfood #5: Spicy Foods

One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to boost your metabolism is by eating more spicy foods. A recent study published in the Journal of Nutrition showed that adding spices like cinnamon, turmeric, oregano, rosemary, garlic powder and paprika to unseasoned meals can reduce the amounts of insulin and triglycerides normally released after eating.

The result is that the body’s metabolism is now working faster and more efficiently, as it converts food to fuel and keeps that food from turning into fat stores.

I recommend adding a tablespoon or more of these spices to your daily meals. Rule of thumb: the spicier the food, the stronger they typically are at boosting the metabolism.

I also often recommend that people try adding capsicum or ginger to their meals, or to a hot Indian spiced tea that you drink at least twice a day.

    Superfood #6: Acai Berry

The Acai Berry is one of my favorite superfoods of all-time because it has proven to be so amazingly versatile. Acai helps to support immunity and boost the body’s natural defense system against diseases like cancer.

It is nicknamed the “beauty berry” because it also supports healthy hair, skin and nails. Acai Berry is great for weight loss support because it is such a powerful superfood loaded with vitamins and nutrients.

To begin with, Acai is packed with Omega Fatty Acids, which have been shown to increase metabolic rate as well as help suppress appetite and control food cravings. Secondly, Acai is full of all-natural vegetarian protein, which is vital to healthy weight loss.

Everyone should be taking Acai Berry supplements, whether you are trying to lose weight or not. Acai Berry is truly one of the most powerful superfoods in existence.

One caveat: there has been a lot of hype about Acai in the media, leading some companies to make false claims that their Acai product can work miracles. Be sure any Acai product you buy contains at least 15,000 mg. of Acai per serving.

In conclusion, the key to better health is to establish a core diet of healthy alkaline foods and then put your diet on fat-burning overdrive by eating some of these incredible superfoods for an added boost! When combined with exercise, the above superfoods make for a powerful recipe for healthy weight loss.
